No, the mount can be used both ways, forward or backwards. The marking on the turrets (Up / Down and Left / Right ) will only be true when it is mounted with the turrets facing forward.
No, it only adds 17mm.
It depends on the weight of the device mounted to it. If it is installed onto a recoilless rifle or a rifle with light recoil, you can mount a sight up to 0.8 kg. But for rifles with substantial recoil you can only mount a sight up to 0.2 kg.
